[Answer]Can I stop Vista connecting to the internet at boot up?

Question:Dear all

I wonder if you can help me pls. (Apologies if this question already exists, i've not been able to find any details about it but might just be incapable of describing my problem correctly.)

I'm running Vista 32bit home premium. I have a router and access it using a network cable.

When I turn on my machine, it automatically connects to my internet connection. I would like to control that... so that I can turn on the machine, and choose when to start the connection.

In the start menu, 'Connect to' I have nothing... but I have setup a connection in 'network connections' called HOME. Within here I can't seem to find any additional settings that would help me.

(btw. There is another reason for this in that my Comodo firewall and anti-virus product didn't appear to start *before* my network connection - and thus it appeared I had a live connection but with no protection.)

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated.

Answer 2:Hello Skipz,

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

What browser is opening when you turn on your computer (Internet Explorer 7/8, Firefox)?   If you would go to the Start option and  select "All Programs" then you will most likely need to scroll down to "Startup" folder.  If you would click on that folder and if you see your browser in the folder you can right-click and remove.  This should stop this application starting when you boot your computer.

Please let us know status.  Thanks!

Answer 3:Hi there James.

Thanks for the reply.

Apologies, I think my question has been poorly constructed due to my confusion on the subject!

Let me try again;

I turn on my computer...

As soon as vista loads and I get to the desktop, in the systray I have the  'currently connected to' icon and i've connected succesfully to the internet. What i would like to do is choose when I can connect.... but I can't locate any settings which allow me to choose when, rather than vista just auto-connecting...

Maybe there's no such option, but i'm just curious as to whether there's a setting that would allow me to do this, rather than disabling the adapter, as that seems to me a strange way of dealing with it. (Although maybe that's correct - i don't know!)

Many thanks

Skip.
