[Answer]Windows Photo Gallery will not save edited pictures.

Question:I am having problems editing contrast and red eye with Windows Photo Gallery.  I get rid of the red eye and change the brightness, close out gallery and get an error message "An error is preventing Photo Gallery from saving this picture."  The picture is not "read only", it is a jpeg file, and I am the owner/user.  I have edited many other pictures but now it is restricting me from doing these as well as some others that I was previously able to edit.  Any ideas on what is going on?

Answer 2: Hello sjleite,

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Answers Community Forum.

If you are having problems saving edited pictures when you could before, I would ask

if you have installed any 3rd party software that may be interfering with Windows Photo Gallery.

1) If you have a third Party photo editing software, try removing it and see if that will

correct your issue.

2) From other forums, I found several mentions of being a problem with a corrupt copyright field. Look in the details page of the file's properties. You can get to properties on the photo in question, scroll down to the Copyright and Origin section and remove the characters. Select apply and close the file. If the copyright field has no characters to delete, try adding some characters and then delete them.

3) The last thing to try is to check permission on Windows Photo Gallery.

Go to start, and in the programs list. Right click on the windows live photo gallery icon and go to Properties. Select the security tab. Highlight the Everyone group, click on the Edit button. Put a check under allow for all of the permissions. Then do the same for users group. Click on apply or OK.

Please post again and let us know if these suggestions helped to resolve your issue or if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

Answer 3:Hi Marilyn,

Thanks for your attempt in providing the possible solutions however, I am experiencing similiar problem.  Here is what I did:

1.) I took a picture on my smart phone running Windows Mobile 6.1

2.) I transferred my image from smart phone to Windows Vista Business Edition.

3.) Copied from synched folder to desktop.

4.) Unable to rotate using Windows Photo Gallery.

5.) Opened it using Gimp, rotated the image, saved using same filename.

6.) Closed Gimp, opened image with Windows Photo Gallery, the image looks fine, decided to test it by rotating the image, saved it -- was a success.

7.) Opened the image using Windows Photo Gallery, tried to rotate back to the upright position, rotated fine but could not save the image with exact same error.

Looks like Windows Photo Gallery, by itself, is the problem regardless of 3rd party software.
