Question:
When I'm on Live Messenger watching someone's webcam, my internet drops.
When I'm on Skype voice chatting with someone, my internet drops.
This problem has been going on for a long time, and I'm sure this isn't random, but is linked to the high amount of data being sent over the network (by for example webcams or voice chats).
Nobody else on our home network seems to have this problem (or suffers from internet dropouts when I'm having them). I'm not the only one using a laptop. There's another XP, and a Macbook too.
I'm the only one using Vista.
On top of that, altho that could be totally unrelated, my CPU eats *a lot* of memory even when I'm not doing anything that should eat a lot of cpu.
I have tried disabling IPv6 (no results), and I'm running svc /scannow right now.
I assume you'll need information on my specifications. Thought I'd install a program (SIW: http://www.gtopala.com/) to get hold of all the information - but it's eh.. quite a lot of information, and probably too much to give here all in one go. Here's my hardware summary & operating system info - if more information is required let me know.

Answer 2:Hi Markieham
Thank you for Posting on Microsoft Answers.
1st, I would like to suggest you update your Network Card drivers by visiting the manufactures website of your Wireless Network Adapter.
2nd, What Antivirus Software are you running and is it up to date?
Try doing a Selective Startup (Clean Boot) and see if you still have this issue - the Clean Boot will help determine if a Service or Startup Program is causing the issue:
How-to run Windows in Selective Startup (Clean Boot)… |
1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click System and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click System Configuration. 2. Click Continue, or provide Administrator credentials if prompted. 3. Click the General tab, and click Selective startup. 4. Under Selective startup uncheck Load startup items. 5. Click the Services tab, check the Hide all Microsoft services box, and then click Disable all. 6. Click the Apply, then OK, and then Restart. |
Please Post back and let us know if this has helped to resolve the issue or if we need to continue troubleshooting - thank you

Answer 3:I'll try updating the network card drivers later today or tomorrow.
I'm running Avira AntiVir Personal. It's set to automaticly update both the software and the virus definitions, so yes it should be up to date.
I'll also check the selective startup later today or tomorrow.
(Thought I'd post back with the antivirus)
