[Answer]Vista Home Premium on new laptop - can't connect to wireless router

Question:I just purchased a new laptop with Vista Home Premium.  I have never had a problem with connecting other PCs/Laptops to our router by just typing in the access key (26-character string generated by the router when I initially set it up).  Our other wireless connections are from a MacBook and an XP Laptop.  Each of them was very easy to set up, just type in the 26 letters and numbers.  However, now I can't get to a point where I can type that into Vista.

The only process I know how to do is click on "Connect to a Wireless Network" either from the taskbar or from Control Panel.  I then choose my network (which it sees just fine).  It then says that "Additional log on information is required to connect to this network".  I click on "Enter/select additional log on information".  Then it pops up with a Credentials screen with text fields for user name, pw, and logon domain.  I never set anything like that up on the router, I've only used the 26-character access key up to this point.

Any tips?  Thoughts?  Other methods?

Answer 2:Nevermind.  I figured it out thanks to <insert router's brand name here> support documents.

1) Right click the network icon in the taskbar and select "Network and Sharing Center"
2) Click "Manage wireless networks" in the left sidebar
3) Click "Add"
4) Choose "Manually create a network profile"
5) Fill in the text fields with the proper information... turns out the security type for the 26-key access code is WEP.  So after filling everything in, I'm up and running.

Answer 3:Thank you so much for posting your answer.. It helped me out a ton! Thank you!
