On the national flag of the People’s Republic of China, the red color symbolizes revolution; the five five-pointed stars and their relations symbolize the unity of the revolutionary people under the leadership of the Communist Party. The five-pointed stars adopt yellow color in order to make them stand out on the red background. The yellow color is brighter and more beautiful than the white. The four small stars are arranged in such a way to be in line with the bigger star with one of their points directing to the central point of the latter, denoting that the unity is around one core.
On September 27th, 1949, the 1st Plenary Session of the CPPCC passed the motion that the five star red flag be adopted as the national flag.
On June 28th, 1990, the 14th Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People's Congress approved the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the National Flag, promulgated by Order of the President of the People's Republic of China,and effective as of October 1, 1990.
The National Flag of the People's Republic of China is the symbol and hallmark of the People's Republic of China. All Chinese citizens and organizations should respect and cherish the National Flag.

1949年9月27日,全国政协第一届全体会议代表通过了以五星红旗为国旗的议案。
1990年6月28日,中华人民共和国第七届全国人民代表大会常务委员会第十四次会议通过了《中华人民共和国国旗法》,并由中华人民共和国主席签发主席令,予以公布,自1990年10月1日起实行。
中华人民共和国国旗是中华人民共和国的象征和标志,每个中国公民和组织,都应当尊重和爱护国旗。
