Transferring MS Office from one laptop to another

Question:I have MS Office Professional, currently running on my laptop.  I've just ordered a new laptop and want to move the package to the new laptop.  However, previously I tried to install it on my netbook (I mistakenly thought that one license was for the person rather than just the one computer), and it wouldn't let me install it, as it was already in-use.  Therefore, will I be able to install the software onto my new laptop, if I unistall first on my old one?  Will it know?  I'm a bit confused by this, and any help would be appreciated.

Answer 1:If it is OEM version of Office, it can not be transferred.

If it is a Retail version of Office, it may be transferred to the new Laptop, as long as you uninstall it from the old Laptop.

Home Use:

  • Participation in the Home Use Program ends with expiration or termination of the enrollment under which the eligible software was enrolled in Software Assurance (SA).
  • Home Use Rights licenses for any given program may only be granted to employees who are users of licensed copies of that program with active SA under the enrollment.
  • You may only order software for which you are a licensed user at work.  This license must include active Software Assurance coverage.  You may use this software only while you remain employed by your current employer and while your license has active Software Assurance coverage
  • You may not sell or transfer this software to anyone else.
  • Employees are limited to a single Home Use Rights license for any given program.
  • The Home Use Rights license ties employees' usage rights to continued employment with your organization and ends with termination or expiration of the enrollment under which the eligible program was enrolled in SA.
  • Customers must provide information needed to authenticate employees when enrolling in the Home Use Program and only notify eligible employees that they qualify for the benefit.
  • The employee is at least 18 years of age

    Cheers.

    13. Limitation on License Purchases and Transfers; Term of MSHUP Licenses. Microsoft® software is licensed through MSHUP solely for the use of qualifying employees of Microsoft® volume licensing customers participating in the Microsoft® Home Use Program. For purposes of MSHUP, a qualifying employee is a licensed user of a copy of a MSHUP – eligible desktop application currently enrolled in Software Assurance coverage. A qualifying employee may order only one MSHUP license per software title. MSHUP licenses are non-transferable. You acknowledge that your right to use Microsoft® software under an MSHUP license will expire upon the earlier of (a) termination of your employment with the volume licensing customer through which you gained access to MSHUP, or (b) the expiration or termination of Software Assurance coverage for the corresponding copy of the MSHUP – eligible desktop application that you use at work. • Answer 2:Hi, thanks for replying.  It's actually neither OEM or Retail, I got it through the 'home use' program.

    Answer 3:
I have a follow on question related to above:

If I am not permitted to move office from my old laptop to my new one, could I "upgrade" office on the new laptop?
