Question:k 1st of all, couldn't they make a more organized forum? lol.. anyways...
2nd o all, Hi :)
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit.
Due to some problems with one of these updates; KB961501, kb968537 and kb970238, i get the famous "3 of 3 configurtion screen" when my pc attempt rebooting after installing them...
i tried to download and run the update fix mentioned here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937287
but it says that "the update does not apply to your system"
Down on the same page it says that i need a prerequisit, which is KB94993, but then again when i run it it gives me the same message that i mentioned before...
Please help? lol
also wondering if the one-click fix mentioned in one of the threads would work.. haven't tried it yet because i want to make sure
Answer 1:Hi icexx7,
.
I think the quickest way to troubleshoot this issue might be to log into Safe mode, by rebooting and pressing the F11 key as soon as your computer starts to boot back up and choosing the Safe mode boot option, and attempting the updates from there.
It's likely that a program is having trouble closing or is conflicting with the update.
This can sometimes be the anti-virus software thinking it's being attacked by the update, which might be accessing a secure area of the operating system. You my want to turn your anti-virus off temporarily while you perform the update as well.
Hope this helps.
Chris
Answer 2:The that didn't change anything... i don't have any anti-virus softwares on my pc.
Well, obviously there isn't a direct solution for this problem... i'll just unplug my labtop evertime this happens, reboot in safe mode and do system restore to the point right before the installation of the updates...
Or format.
Answer 3:Hi icexx7,
Thanks for posting.
Not having an anti-virus could be a concern.
You might want to try an online scan, or downloading a few anti-virus and do a full scan.
You can also try creating a new profile and rerun the updates from there to see if there may be some corruption in your user account.
1. | Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety, and then clicking User Accounts. |
2. | Click Manage another account. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. |
3. | Click Create a new account. |
4. | Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type, and then click Create Account. |
See if you can log into the new profile and update, then restart into the new profile to see if the issue is resolved.
Please let us know if this helps.
Chris
