Question：Okay, a friend of mine and I thought it would be a good idea to take Vista off my HP Pavilion Desktop and install a copy of XP Pro on it instead so that we could use it's processing power to play games better. Not long after doing this I find that most of the useful hardware drivers for the desktop require Vista to run :P So it is only THEN that I realize that I didn't get a Vista OS CD with my computer.
The product key is on a sticker on the side of the desktop's case so all I need is an installation disk, but I've been hard pressed to find a place that will give one to me without having to pay for a whole new OS. Not to mention I don't even remember which of the many versions of Windows Vista was installed on my desktop in the first place. The Best Buy that I bought the desktop from has since closed down and I'm not sure if I should drive to another city and take my case in asking for an OS CD (I'm that desperate now) or if they would even do that for me.
Is there anyway I could get an image file of the disk from the microsoft website with proof of my product key, or possibly a store that I could go to, to get the Vista OS from with proof of the product key on my case? Any solution to this problem would be great.

Originally you had a Recovery partition on your Hard Drive; ask HP about that too.
You can not get replacement Vista DVD from Microsoft, as your Vista Licence is classified as OEM, and all Warranty, replacement is on the responsibility of the Computer Manufacturer.
You could also try borrowing a proper Vista DVD(not Dell, HP, etc), as all Vista versions are contained on it.
There are 2 VistaDisks: one for 32bit and one for 64bit.
It is the Product Key that decides what version gets installed.

I've been fighting that same battle with e-machines and being a disabled grandma with no money was furious I had 2 pay $22.00 for something that should be included with their product!! Sad 2 say after 2 months I gave in and purchased it. That information want help U but wacky me did the same with my old HP computer I called & asked for a supervisor and explained how I felt ripped off and they sent me a set of recovery disk free{windows xp home}Sorry couldn't be of more help & remember Jesus luvs U
