To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps.
- Click Start, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. - On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
- Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
- Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
- Click OK.
- When you are prompted, click Restart.
- After the computer starts, start the game or program and check whether the problem is resolved.

Answer 2:I can not install any progams in Vista. Windows installer doesn't work it just hangs up. I can no longer click on links in emails as it tries to run a program. Also, I can no longer click on pictures.
When I click on start/ accessories there is no command prompt to right click on. I typed in command prompt within search and was able to get the c:\ however sfc is not a recognized command
