Question:hello, i would like to start by giving thanks in advance for your support. now i have vista 32 bit. i am not sure which version of the media player i have. i think its 11. well the problem is any song i download and add ends up being in there 2 and some cases 3x. so basically i have i say about half of my media songs are duplicated. how would i fix this and keep from happening in the future please.

Hi Sk412,
Thank you for posting on the forum. I found this article researching the issue that you're having.
My library contains two entries for each file. How can I fix this?
If you upgraded your Player to Windows Media Player 10, this might be just a temporary visual defect in the Player. To clear the duplicate entries, click another feature tab in the Player (such as Now Playing), and then click Library.
If this doesn't clear the duplicate entries from your library, you can use the Add to Library by Searching Computer dialog box to scan a folder on your computer that the invalid duplicate entries point to. The Player will remove the invalid entries in your library that point to files that no longer exist in the folder.
To use the Add to Library by Searching Computer dialog box
1. | Start Windows Media Player. |
2. | Press F3 on your keyboard to open the Add to Library by Searching Computer dialog box. |
3. | Click the Browse button to locate the folder on your computer for which your library contains invalid entries. Specify the folder location in the Look in box. If you are not sure which duplicate entry in your library is invalid, you can add a File Path column to your library display by following the instructions in the last question. Specify the folder on your computer that matches the invalid file path displayed in your library. |
4. | Click the Search button. The Player will search for digital media files and playlists in the folder that you specify and will remove the invalid entries in your library that point to files that no longer exist in the folder. If invalid duplicate entries point to other folders on your computer, repeat this procedure, specifying a different folder each time. |
If only a small number of duplicate entries exist, you can delete the invalid ones manually by right-clicking the invalid entry, and then clicking Delete.
If you have a large number of duplicate entries in your library (or if your entire library is duplicated), it might be best to create a new library. See the next question for instructions on how to do this.

Answer 2:I have the same issue, and the reply is NOT a solution. I read that, that is for WMP10, we have WMP11, i recreated the playlist and stuff, still comes with dups, only have one file on my comp. and i am not deleteing each one manually, i have over 1,500 songs that are different, some are even listed 4 times,
I like the old format, when you have the library itself and not just playlists,
this playlist thing sucks, i want to view my WHOLE library, like every song on my comp,
sure auto playlist helps, but it isn't what i want, I might go back to WMP8 or whatever it was that was decent version,
microsoft thinks new looks and feel is helping, but people who like the old way way to stick with it.
just like i got screwed with vista 64-bit, i only had 2 months problem free, and only reinstalled over 20 times, sometimes 3 times a week, because the continous crashes, what do i get for it, crappy support that replys once every 2 weeks, and when i don;t reply back in a day they complain and close it, i mean WTF. i should geta free upgrade to 7, but i know they won;t give me it, I mean, if i known vista was going to ____ out all the time on me i would go for mac or something.
not to mention microsoft is just not willing to give people what they want, they care more about profit than making it stable and a great OS.
people would buy it if it was great and not buggy all the time, i mean i never saw the blue screen of death with XP, but my new vista laptop, i saw it over a dozen times. I only did disk repairs 1,000 times becuase vista can't keep it's ____ working
