How to change a file name extension from Movie Maker

Question:I am trying to upload a video to both You Tube and Facebook from Movie Maker on Vista, yet both programs say they do not support the MSWMM file name extension. How can I change the extension to wmv or something supported by those programs without destroying the file?
I have already changed the file name ext. by renaming the file, but it destroyed it and I was not even able to view it.

Answer 1: Hi Linsala,

Try highlighting your video on the collections list and then clicking save movie on the top of the toolbar. Go through the steps and it should save it as a wmv.

If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask. We look forward to hearing back from you with your results.

In movie maker, there is not a Save Movie option and I have no way to change the extension.  Please help. This is incredibly frustrating.  I put in time combining movies and saved it as a project which would only save as a MSWMM extension and you tube will not support this type.  I need to save as MOV or WMV or something different. Please be as detailed in your response as possible as I am not well versed in the computer terminology. Thank you

.mswmm is the project file and is only useful for re-editing in Movie Maker.

For your purpose...you need to "Publish" (Vista speak for Save Movie File)
the file to the .wmv format.

Have a look at the following links:
