[Answer]Burning music to CD

Question:

I have downloaded some family music from My Space but am unable to burn it to CD so I can play it on my Radio CD player and my hi fi. I have downloaded it to "Music", "Windows Media Player", "Windows Media Centre" and "Audacity" in an effort to burn the CD. I have also tried "Sound Recorder". I have tried using different makes of disc but have had no luck in burning to CD. Can anyone help please? I have Vista Home Premium.

Answer 1: A bit more info which might be relevant. The music I am trying to burn to CD is MP3 format and I am using CD-R to record to. In Winows Media Player it has downloaded on WMA format. Should I convert from MP3 to something else? How would I do that. And should I be using CD+RW?

How to burn a disc in Windows Media Player

The most likely scenario you're running into is that you've not added tracks to the Burn List. Also, please note that Windows Media Player does support MP3 as a format, and converts the files when it performs the burn process to a file type known as PCM. These converted copies are then added to the burned disc.

If you are experiencing failures during the burn process you will need to be a little more specific, and provide error codes if available. Also, if you could provide a step-by-step detailing how you are trying to burn these files that would be helpful. If you have any questions about how to burn using Windows Media Player please refer to the walkthrough below.

To burn an audio CD do the following:

1.     Click the Burn tab, click the arrow below the Burn tab, and then click Audio CD (this is the default choice).

2.     Insert a blank CD-R disc into your CD burner.

3.     If necessary, click the Clear List pane button to remove all items from the previous burn list.

4.     Find the items in your library that you want to copy to the audio CD.

5.     To create a burn list, drag items from the Details pane (the pane in the middle of the library) to the List pane (the pane on the right side of the library).

Answer 3: Thank you for the help. I have downloaded it to Windows Media Player and then followed instructions to burn to a CD but it did not record. I went into Windows Media Player again and got a message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file"  I get the name of the music up on Windows Media Player but there is a red cross against it. I have tried adding it to the playlist but still can't play it or burn it to CD.
