After Webroot did a virus scan my sounds are behaving oddly

Question:Here's the situation:

Webroot anti-virus scanned and removed a couple of viruses from my computer this morning.

Now, I get some wierd behavior regarding sounds on my computer:

1) When I test the speaker (by selecting "test" via the control panel), they work.

2) When I listen to music saved to my computer the sound works fine.

3) When I put a music CD in my computer the same program (Windows Media Player) comes up and I get a window saying - "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

4) When I pull up any kind of video-streaming on the Internet (news, YouTube), the video plays but there is no sound.

5) Although unmuted, when I adjust the sound volume through the speaker icon on the lower right of my screen, there are no "beeps" when I slide the volume adjustor up or down.

6) There are NO Microsoft Windows sounds (no sounds at start-up, shut-down, no usual beeps, whistles, etc. that is associated with Microsoft Windows sounds)

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sound drivers but I got no results.

Any advice?

Answer 1:Hey guys - I just found the solution.

Apparently, there were some Realtek and other audio related updates that needed to be made via Windows Updates.  I just installed them and now the sound is working again.

Answer 2:

I think I've got the same exact problem.  Webroot removed a couple of viruses from my PC a few days ago and after that I had no sound in Vista or online...but itunes and WMP worked fine.  Then I installed the Vista Service Pack 2 and the sound returned briefly, only to stop again yesterday.  You said you solved it with updates to Realtek, but how and where did you find them?  I've checked for updates to my PC and it keeps telling me that there are no new updates available.  Please help.
