Answer 1:Hi Leonardo,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers Forum.

You are absolutely correct, to install SP 2 you need to install SP 1 first. Instead of uninstalling the updates,

        1. I would recommend you to try system restore to the earlier date when the updates were not installed.

Below are the instructions for a System Restore:

Running the System Restore utility…

1.     Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore.

2.     Click Continue or provide Administrator credentials if necessary.

3.     Click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.

4.     Select a Date and Time prior to first sign of the issue you've described.

5.     If the date you need is in excess of (5) days click the Show restore points older than 5 days check box.

Important Notice: That System Restore affects Windows system files, programs, and registry settings. It can also make changes to scripts, batch files, and other types of executable files on your computer. Thus, any recently installed programs, updates, or changes to configuration will be lost if you use System Restore. However, make note that System Restore does not affect personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos, so it cannot help you restore a deleted file.

Once the updates are removed, please try installing the updates by the dates, ( oldest first).

2.How do I find out whether I have Windows Vista SP1 installed?

     a. Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.

     b. A window is displayed where you can view basic information about your computer. If Windows Vista SP1 is installed,

you see reference to Service Pack 1 under the Windows edition section.

   3. If you have Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installed, you can install Vista Service Pack 2:

If you need information about Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista, you can follow the link:

      http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/948465/en-us

     Installation Tips:

• Your computer will restart several times during the installation process:
Make certain you've saved your work and closed all open applications before beginning the install.

• Disable (1) your anti-virus application, (2) any real-time system protections afforded by any anti-spyware applications (except Defender), & (3) your third-party firewall (if any) and then (4) enable the Windows Firewall before installing or uninstalling Vista SP2.

• The installation process can take an hour or more: If you're installing SP2 on a portable computer, make sure that you plug-in the power cord and have the battery inserted into its bay.

• Vista SP1 is a prerequisite for installing SP2. If you use Windows Update or the Automatic Update feature in Windows Vista, you will not be offered the option to install SP2 until you first install SP1.

  Hope this helps.
