Songs from the same albums show up scattered

Question:I like to keep my files organized, very organized, especially my Music folder.  Each album goes in it's own folder which is then placed into a folder for the respective artist.  This way I can open my music folder and all my files are easy to find.  I'm sure I'm not the only one.  However, every once in a while I add an album and windows media player does its thing and adds it to the library of music it has.  However, in some cases it decides to split up the albums, double the entries for the songs or just exclude  a single song by itself.  Most albums work fine, just the way it should and I have no problems.  Apparently when adding music however, WMP doesn't enjoy the organization I've put in.

I have two Sony VAIO FW series computers, one is a 355J/H and the other is a 485J/B.  The lower one is basically my media computer which has all the media on it, and then I can stream it from the laptop to my main one anywhere in the house or even to my stereo or television.  Hooray technology!  But what is odd, is the problem I mentioned above is different across the network.  Files that appear in the library correctly on the media laptop show up scattered when I browse the library from my main laptop.  Once again, not all albums, just some.  For instance, the Matrix Revolutions soundtrack is correct on the 355 but shows up broken when viewed on my 485.

Now, I can painstakingly fix all the problems I've mentioned on the library on the 355 which is a pain but is still manageable.  However, because some albums show up broken over the network I can't help but think the issue goes a little deeper.  As a bit of added information, the songs all have the same album name so that isn't the issue.  It will literally show, eg. Dream Factory CD 1 for twenty tracks in the album sorting.

Also, side question, my library used to show up without the A, B, C bar's that expand/collapse that letter but then one day they were there.  Is there any way to get rid of them again?

Answer 1:

Hi Dragon_Idea,

Thank you for posting on the forums.

Try creating another Windows account on your 485 > make that account an administrator > login with that account and setup WMP and see if that will work like your 355. If that works then your profile is corrupted.  Please follow the instructions from this article on how to

Fix a corrupted user profile

Hope that will fix it for you.

Answer 2:My 485 is actually brand new, no more than two weeks old and besides some gaming software it doesn't have any 3rd part software on it.  However, the 355 I got some time last year and it very well may have some issues with it.  It seems more likely to be a culprit.  As a quick note, if the profile has become corrupted this could cause my albums to act wonky in media player?  And if that is the case, what are some precautions I can take to prevent it from happening in the future?

Answer 3:I tried as you recommended but the new account didn't change anything so I hope thats a good thing.  To be sure that we are however thinking of the same problem I've provided two screenshots to make sure the issue is certain:

These are two pictures of the issue, in the first picture is the library as viewed from the 355, in this case note the Housexy album.  The second shot is what the library looks like through the network, you'll notice the album is now broken up.  In the first picture you can also see the Matrix Reloaded CD 2 which isn't visible in the second picture, but it too is a victim of this, whereas its counterpart, Matrix Reloaded CD 1 is not.  The only difference is, for whatever reason, on the MR CD 2 the album is only broken up in four pieces though there are seven tracks, unlike above where the entire album is shattered.
