No Audio Aftr Installing Vista SP2

Question:I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i Notebook computer with Vista Business.  On Wednesday May 27th, I downloaded and installed Vista SP2.  I have had no sound since that time.  The speaker icon on the tray at the bottom of my desktop shows a red X.  The Lenovo toolbox tells me I have no Audio High Definition Driver installed.  I have attempted to download Conexant High Definition Audio Driver via Windows Update and it fails to install.  I have scoured the internet forums and find that there are a lot of users experiencing the same exact problem that I am facing.  I have attempted every fix mentioned on these sites to no avail.  I have uninstalled the driver and scanned for updates.  I have found updates and attempted to install and they have continuously failed.  I went directly to the Lenovo website and downloaded the Conexant High Definiton Audio specifically identified for my Notebook.  Still no sound.  I am really frustrated that Microsoft puts out these updates that affect other things on my computer and to get there help have to pay for technical assistance.  Last year, I downloaded another update via Microsoft Update and my Intel Video Chipset stopped working and I have been unable to solve that problem as well.  Help!

Answer 1:Hi 49er,

Please go to the link : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?brandind=10&familyind=382898&operatingsystemind=49979&template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&validate=true

Once there, Choose from the drop down menu the Family, Type and OS name and try to download and install the audio driver. Check if the issue is resolved.

Answer 3:This may go without saying, but did you try to go directly to Windows Updates and manually install the updates?

Apparently, there were some audio related updates that needed to be installed.  I had some wierd sound issues about an hour ago, but got them resolved after manually installing the updates
