Question:WindowsUpdate_dt000 in the troubleshooting thing.
When I actually click update it gets an error that says: 80070424
Haven't been updated fro a while. Using Vista Home Premium.
Need help.

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers forum. The problem occurs when the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Windows Update or Workstation service is stopped or not registered. I need more clarity on WindowsUpdate_dt000 though.
Follow the steps for the error 0x80070424 and check if it helps.
Step 1: Click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search text area, and then click services.msc in the programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
Double-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
- Change the start up type to 'Automatic'.
- Click on 'Apply'.
- If the Startup status lists 'Stopped', click 'Start' and then click OK.
Double-click Windows Update.
- Change the start up type to 'Automatic'.
- Click on 'Apply'.
- If the Startup status lists 'Stopped', click 'Start' and then click OK.
Double-click Workstation.
- Change the start up type to 'Automatic'.
- Click on 'Apply'.
- If the Startup status lists 'Stopped', click 'Start' and then click OK.
Close the Services window and try to install updates again. Go to step 2 if, this step didn't help.
Step 2: Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the results area, right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator. You will be prompted to type the password for an administrator account. Click Continue if you are the administrator or type the administrator password. Then, click Continue.
At the command prompt, type the following commands one by one and press ENTER after every command.
- regsvr32 Qmgr.dll /s
- regsvr32 Qmgrprxy.dll /s
Exit from the command prompt. Try windows updates again. Go to the next step, if this one didn't help
Step 3: Download and install the latest version of Windows Update Agent (for 32-bit or 64-bit, depending on your system) from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104/en-us
Once you have installed the latest version, restart the computer and then try to check for updates.
Note: In step 2, if you don't find the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, please download the following update and install it. Restart the computer and then check for windows updates.
