Question:Hi,
I am having some problems with the Windows Media Player 11 on Vista. On my XP machine, when I view a video frame by frame, it works perfectly forwards and backwards. However when I try to play the same video on my Vista machine, the forward frame button works perfectly fine but the previous frame button takes the video back by 5-10 frames. Since I use my Vista machine more, and need this functionality quite often, it becomes annoying very soon. Is this a media player's problem (since the same player is working fine on XP with the same video) and can it be fixed through a patch or some sort?
Thank you
Answer 1:Hello Helloaamir,
Thank you for posting. I understand the problem that you are having, but I don't understand the why as in the need for these feature. Depending on what you are trying to do, you maybe able to use Movie Maker instead as it has frame by frame features also. If you could include what your are using this feature for, I may be able to either give you a good alternative or possible fix for the issue.
Looking forward to assisting you more.
Zack
Answer 2:I also have the same problem and need. Here is my situation. I want to use Windows Media Player 11 to play high quality .wmv files. I need to be able to play the video in 1/4 speed, 1/2 speed, 3/4 speed and full speed. I also need to move forward and backward frame by frame. I really wish the back frame button (using Vista) would not move back 5 to 10 frames. A high quality, larger file size video also really slows down WMP in Vista. I then run a screen capture program at 30 frames per second over the playing video. The purpose of the screen capture program is to capture my voice, cursor, and the video play back speed (frame by frame, 1/2 speed and etc). I had intended on using this program with a vista computer to continue my video evaluations, which are basically like a custom tutorial.
Basically, I need WMP to work in Vista like it does in XP!
Answer 3:I have been having the same issue with an application. We are developing a professional application that needs to play the media files frame by frame. We used media player control to achieve this but ran into this issue on Windows Vista. Application works perfectly fine on Windows XP.
This is not a coding problem because the player behaves the same and on pressing previous it can move back 5 or may be 10 frames. Next frame button works fine though.
I also made sure that I have all the media player updates installed so I assume there is no patch released as yet?
Regards,
Ahmed
