Question:Hey sound and media forum! I'm hoping you could help me out with something...
I am about to purchase a new computer and I am currently in the process of backing up all of my data onto an external hard drive which is to be transferred to the new computer. I have had this computer for a while now, and over time my music files have become disorganized in terms of their location in various folders (such as 'My Music'). I was hoping that you could advise me on the best and easiest way to ensure the transfer of all the music that I have in my Windows Media Player Library to the external hard drive; as it is my Windows Media Player Library that I use most when performing various functions with music files. I am currently using the Windows Media Player 10 edition with Windows XP.
Any help would be extremely appreciated! Thank you for your time!
Answer 1:Hello Whitesnake_0689,
Thank you for your post. Unless I'm mistaken, there isn't a way to transfer all of the music from your folders to an external hard drive. There is, however, a way to locate all of the folders that are being monitored by Media Player and then you can manually move each folder to an external drive. To do this, open your Media Player > Click on the arrow down (under Library) and select 'Add to Library...' There you can view your monitored folders and it will display the correct location.
Please let us know if this answers your question.
Cheers
Answer 2:Hey Dude_Lebowski!
I followed the advice and discovered that there were two monitored folders there - both of which were 'My Music' folders with one 'My Music' folder being written in caps. I transferred both onto the external drive.
Thank you very much for your help my friend!
