[Answer]Reformat trouble

Question:Due to an issue in whcih I'm unable to start up my PC due to a boot failure, I decided to reformat my hard drive. I set the BIOS to put my CD drive to boot priority and all of that, put in my Vista DVD, and begin the process. I start by selecting my language, time and currency, etc, then go to the next page, which is the product key page. I then accept the terms and stuff, choose my type of installation (I choose custom), then move onto the next page. This page asks which driver I want to install Windows on, but selection page is empty. I go to the Load driver option, and go through all of my choices, but I still can't find my hard drive. So this is where I get stuck. Is there an option I have to change in order for the computer to read my hardrive, or can I format my hard drive without using Windows, OR is my hard drive just dead? Please tell me if I'm missing any information you absolutely need for this issue.

PS, the exact message when I look for my drives is "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK."

Answer 1:I am having what seems like the exact same problem.
I reformatted because I wanted a fresh start. Insert the disk and I get to when I need to choose my drive/partitions and it says I need to upate or something along the lines of that. I was thinking at first it maybe meant my DVD drive but I looked and it has no drivers. So I load the disk onto a flash drive and get to the same spot and it says I don't have a place to put Windows.  I am using Vist home Prem 64bit. Any advice or help would be very greaty appreciated.

Answer 2:Hi Gorudu and Nullfox,

Thank you for using Vista Support forum,

Please check in your BIOS setting see if the hard drive is detected? If not, then most likely you have a bad hard drive that need to be replace.  If yes, then you might need special driver (example if you running RAID settings) for the hard drive.  Please identify the make and model of the hard drive.  Go to the manufacturer website and check to see if there is any driver needed to load the hard drive.

Hope this helps,
Kevin

Answer 3:I have this exact same issue with a new computer I'm setting up.  The Processor and mother board died 6 hours after a new install.  Now with replaced components I've seem to have lost the MBR on the hard drive.

I can format the drive from command prompt, the BIOS "see's" it, I can format it with Ubuntu and an OLD XP disc I have lying around.  Vista won't can't find the partition to install on.  How can I resolve this from the Vista install disc?  What commands do I need from the command prompt to fix the HDD?
