Question:When I upload my .avi videos from my video camera, it shows only the audio and a black screen where it should show the video.
Answer 1:Hello JacobMartin,
Thank you for posting. It seems that you either don't have the proper codecs to properly view the file or you haven't install the software for you Video camera. Let's check the Camera's software install first and if it still doesn't work. You can use your favorite search engine (Live.com for example) to search for Vista Codecs.
Please try these steps and let me know if they help you.

Answer 2:I just copied the videos off of the camera into my videos folder.
Answer 3:Hello JacobOMartin,
Thank you for posting. Since codecs are provided by 3rd parties, I can't really say what is the proper codec to play your file correctly.
You can go to Live.com and do a search for Vista Codecs and choose one of the codecs packs that is most compatible with Vista.
When trying to find the right codec for a particular file, you can use the WMPlugins.com Codec webpage or other websites. Typically, you should start with WMPlugins.com first. Note that if you aren't able to find a codec on WMPlugins.com, it is possible that the codec you are looking for is not compatible with the Player, so you might not be able to use the Player for this particular file.
Use caution when installing codecs that aren't listed on WMPlugins.com or Microsoft.com, such as some of the free codec packs available on the Internet that claim to include codecs from a wide variety of companies or organizations.
Zack
