I have checked the bios and the device manager and used another program cdburnerxp to burn a file...So how do I get the windows dvd maker to registrer my dvd burner???

Answer 1:Hello mwinterberg,

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

Are you receiving any error's or error codes when this is happening?  Have you made any changes to your operating system prior to this occuring.  I have looked over several other forums with this issue and found users just updated driver.  I know you advised you went into device manager, did you try to update?  Please let us know of status.

"After the intervention it was detected one anomalie in the SATA/RAID controllers.

DVDRW was detected as a SCSI unit.

This way the Windows DVD Maker doesn't detects the DVDRW.

Driver was updated.

DEVRW is now detected as IDE.

Windows DVD Maker reconizes the DVDRW."

Answer 2:Hi, thanks for the reply..I just tried to update my dvd device, but I've got the latest driver allready, so that doesn't seem to work??? The device is a Matshita dvd + - RW UJ-875S ATA device...I haven't got any error's or error codes...And I have even booted my computer to the original settings and it still doesn't work for me...

Answer 3:Hello mwinterberg,

Thank you for your reply back!

Are you able to burn a DVD or CD using any other programs on your computer?  Or are you able to play DVD or CD on that drive?  Since you have used Windows Movie Maker in the past burning DVD's, has this started happening recently that you are unable to do so?
I have added a step below other users with same problem have tried with success.  Also you could try to perform a system restore to a point in time when this was working.  Please let us know status.

Control Panel - Programs and Features:

Located program listed similar to - 'JMicron JMB36X'

Clicked 'change' on this program.

Directed to restart,

Automatically located new drivers on start up.

Burner now appears in DVD maker and Windows Media Player

How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista:

Using the System Restore tool may not necessarily help you determine the issue. The System Restore tool uses restore points to return system files and settings to an earlier point in time. You can use it to restore the operating system to a point in time in which you did not experience the issue. When you use System Restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you installed are removed.
