Question:My PC came with Vista Home Premium 64-bit installed, I want to downgrade to 64-bit XP.
I hate Vista!
Any suggestions for someone on SSA?
Answer 1:
DreamCatcher,
Windows does not include an option for downgrading the operating system.
If your computer came with Windows Vista, then to install XP 64bit you will have to aquire the proper licensing for that version along with the proper installation media. XP is no longer sold at retail as of June 2008.

Answer 2:Amazing, how many hits one gets returned, just by typing in "I Hate Vista", isn't it?
I have a degree in Computer Sciences and still hate everything about the Vista platform. The OS seems to assume that every user is an idiot and have, therefore, made every attempt to save us from ourselves by disallowing easy access to familiar menues and controls. Why is it that Microsoft engineers seem to worship at the "different is better" altar, rather than just fixing known bugs and concentrating on providing a stable OS when they release "new" versions?
I had a fellow computer geek tell me that he'd heard Microsoft was considering providing a free copy of the next Windows OS to those who, like myself and millions of others, are so totally disappointed with Vista. From your reply above, however, it looks as though Microsoft is just planning on sticking it to us again. If we want an operating system that is somewhat acceptable (or that we already know the evils of), like XP, you really think we should have to pay for it all over again?
When I buy things as expensive as a laptop, I normally have some recourse in having the manufacturer handle "lemon" issues. With Vista, it doesn't seem to matter how good your base equipment is. If the OS sucks, you might as well attempt your computing on an abacus. Is Microsoft so sure of its customer base that they don't plan on making things right for those of us who got stuck with the Vista lemon?
Definitely makes a diehard PC, look longingly at the relatively blissful MAC users, that's for sure.
