Question:I have an HP dv-4 Pavilion laptop that is running Windows Vista 64bit. The "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x64" constantly fails to install. I have tried 3-4 times and continue to get a Code 800B0100 error. I clicked on the link to troubleshoot the error. This brought me to Microsoft's website to download the "System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista for x64-based systems (KB947821){August 2008}". I successfully downloaded this tool but I continue to receive the error when trying to update. Any suggestions on what to try next? Thank you.

Hello meegs85,
Thank you for using Microsoft Answers form. The link below has several options you may try for your .NET issue. I would try the repair install first. Then the uninstall option.

Hello Meegs85,
Method 1:
There are a few things that could be causing this issue, please try these steps first,
1. Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then clicking Administrative Tools.
2. Double-click Services. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. Right-click the Windows Update service, and then click Stop.
4. Click start, then click all programs, then click accessories, then right click command prompt and choose to run as administrator.
Type:
net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wuapi.dll /s
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll /s
regsvr32 wucltux.dll /s
regsvr32 wudriver.dll /s
regsvr32 wups2.dll /s
regsvr32 wups.dll /s
regsvr32 wuwebv.dll /s
net start wuauserv
exit
Restart the system and see if it can update now.
If this does not fix the problem you could also try repairing the BITS service, by following the below article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940520.
Method 2:
Download the .Net Framework removal tools from the below link,
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/attachment/8904493.ashx
Run the tool & you should remove only that version for which you are receiving error code. (i.e. you should only remove .NET Framework 3.5 & its service packs package)
Then, restart your computer & manually install the following updates in order
1) Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 package from the below link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6&displaylang=en
2) Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 from the below link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=en
3) Now, download & install .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x64
Hope this helps.

Please refer to the following link to the Microsoft KB article to download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. When you go to download it do the following:
1. Select to Save and put it on your desktop
2. Now right click msicuu2.exe (for Windows Installer CleanUp Utility) and select to Run as administrator.
3. Follow the wizard to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now click Start>All Programs>Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (provide administrative rights if prompted). Now try to locate and remove the .Net Framework software, after doing so restart your computer.
Now download and install the NET Framework 1.1 Redistributable Package and the update:
1. Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package
Then install your .net3.5
