Full system restore of windows vista x64

Question:I had a bad hard disk as part of a raid 0 array so I performed a full backup per backup/restore center. After replacing the back disk, I booted from the vista CD and was unable to restore from the backup I had just made because the boot disk array is smaller than the single disk I used for the backup!!

Answer 1:

Hello Carlje,

.

Are you using the same size hard drive to replace the one that failed previously? Have you rebuilt the array in the proper specifications as the previous RAID array? If you are dealing with less space than the array before the failure you will not be able to restore the system to full capacity.

If you experience problems related to the hardware used to build the array you might try contacting the manufacturer.

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Windows Vista Community site. The issue you posted appears to be hardware related; unfortunately we cannot assist with hardware modifications. Please contact the manufacturer for further assistance.

Answer 2:Hi, Yes I replaced the bad disk with the exact same size/type fo disk. However the backup is on a single 1TB drive and the restore expects the boot disk (array raid 0) to also be 1TB.

Answer 3:Carlje,

Can you change the amount of the raid array?
It is very hard to pin point the problem in these situation.  Ensure you array setup is correct and check with computer's manufacturer.
Are you restoring from an image on your backup drive?
Like Judd suggested, if the raid array size is smaller or equal it might not be possible to restore.  This also might depend on if the backup image is compressed or not.

Looking forward to hear from you,
Kevin
