Problems after updating to SP2

Question:

I installed the Vista x64 SP2 to my computer. So far I have noticed two problems.
1. Windows Defender no longer automatically updates. I must do a manual update which means I have to "remember" to do it. Really would like to have the auto update to work again.
2. I noticed when I use Help & Support, the graphics no longer show. I just get a box outline with the red X (like you get on a web site a place holder for graphics).

What do I need to do to fix both of these issues?

Before I updated the system to SP2, I did not have either of these issues. Only since applying the SP2 update.

My computer: HP Pavilion dv7-1232nr (AMD x64) Vista Home Premium X64 SP2

Thanks,
Barb

Answer 1:

Hello BarbM49,

For the first issue with the windows defender update you can try an SFC scan.

Please follow the steps below for an SFC scan:

1.       Press the windows key and R on your keyboard to open the run window.

2.       In the run window please type cmd and then press enter.

3.       In the command prompt window please type SFC /scannow and then press enter.

4.       Please insert the windows vista disk if prompted for.

For the second issue with the graphics.

It would be good if you provide some more information about it, however you can try the following steps.

1.    Press the windows key and R on your keyboard to open the run window.

      2.    In the run window, please type devmgmt.msc and then press enter.

      3.    You will see the device manager.

1.       Right click the graphics card which will be listed there and then click on uninstall.

2.       Restart the computer.

Please let me know if it helps.

Thanks and Regards,
  Rehman

Answer 2:Thanks for all the information. I had already done a checkdisk, etc. Also the graphics card works okay in all applications but the Help & Support application. It is almost like the link to the images are not correct. This is the only application that is a problem and what is even funnier, is that only the graphics to the different topics are not showing. The graphics at the top right show without any problems.

Since Vista was preinstalled, I do not have a Vista disk.

Any other ideas????

Answer 3:Did another "deep investiagtion" into my two problems. Seems that Window Defender had a problem with one of its update and now Defender is back to updating automatically.

As to the Help & Support application -- that is an HP issue. When I uninstalled Hp's Help applications, the Microsoft Help application was "perfect" in appearance. So now to "chat" with HP about their software. Meanwhile, thanks for your help.

I shall mark this thread is answered.
