Question:I have seen a lot of questions concerning jerky video, slow buffering causing stop and go streaming video and people having problems installing adobe when their previous version was working fine prior to the last group of defender, family net 3.5 and other recent updates. Is there a conflict with the updates and adobe. I too am having problems with jerky videos, slow buffering, and red x's where images are supposed to be since an update installed on my vista home basic toshiba laptop. I have gone through all the "fixes" suggested by Brian at KB 283807: Pictures are not displayed on Web sites in Internet Explorer
including the advanced methods and still have the same problems i started with. Can I ask you to check to see how many other people are having problems concerning this and provide a new update to fix what want broken before? Appreciate any assistance with this problem.
my system is vista home basic service pack 1 Intel pentiumCPU T2310 1.46GHz, 1GB 32bit operating system. Did I miss anything? IE version 7.0.6001.18000 and I get a red x in the top part of the about internet explorer dialogue box that pops up when you click on that function. What is up?
Answer 1: halcook,
see if the following applies to your system considering you are referring to the latest .NET framwork update:
An update for the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is available
Next, if that doesn't work, see if a system restore will solve your situation:
The System Restore tool
If the issue that you are experiencing started occurring recently, you can use the System Restore tool. By using this tool, you can restore the computer to an earlier point in time. Using the System Restore tool may not necessarily help you determine the issue. When you use System Restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you installed are removed.
To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:
- Click Start, type system restore in the Start Search box, and then click System Restore in the Programs list. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
- In the System Restore dialog box, click Choose a different restore point, and then click Next.
- In the list of restore points, click a restore point that was created before you began to experience the issue, and then click Next.
- Click Finish.
The computer restarts, and the system files and settings are returned to the state that they were in at the time that the restore point was created.
If you infact do find out it was an update that caused this then take the following steps to install one update at a time till you find out which one it might be:
Click Start -> All Programs -> Windows Update, click Change Settings from the left menu. Select Download updates but let me choose whether to install them, click OK. When you are notified to install a new update, from this window click View Available updates, uncheck all updates and select one at a time, install it, restart your computer, test, and update again. Once you find the update either continue to skip it, look it up at http://support.microsoft.com/

Answer 2: OK that got me back to wherei was before i tried improving performance by geting updates to adobe flash player and adding all the updates from Microsoft that were available. I had also uninstalled the AOL mail stuff and Yahoo messenger that i had previously downloaded but never used so now i have them back too but it fixed the problem with the images and the buffering problem still exists but if I pause the show for a minute and let the buffer fill up then i get 20 muntes of play without having to let the buffer catch up. will upgrading to 2GB RAM help this problem I only have 1 GB now.
I really thank you from the bottom of my CPU as at least things are back to normal. I will let you know what happens when i download and install the updates... thanks again hal cook
PS i did the system restore and didnt mess with the installation of the 3.5 network thing yet... I had installed it but it is unistalled now
Answer 3: hal cook, I do not believe this issue is related to RAM, however upgrading to 2GB will certainly improve performance!
Now as for the buffer catch up, are you experiencing any slow downs in your network connection at all? are any other websites or streaming files slow or do you believe this to be unique to Adobe Flash player?
Try the following steps out to update your Adobe Flash Player:
*Close any open browsers before proceeding*
- Click Start -> click All Programs -> click Accessories -> click Run, type the following in the Open field:
- %systemroot%\System32\Macromed\Flash
- Click OK.
- You will now have a window opened to the folder Flash
- You will see a file called FlashUtil10a.exe (the number on the FlashUtil might be different, pick the highest one), double-click on it to open it, you will be asked if you wish to update your Adobe Flash Player, click Install Now. When the update completes you might be prompted by UAC, click Continue, after which you will receive a message saying that Adobe Flash Player update completed successfully, click Ok.
- Restart your computer, open internet explorer and test your Flash player.
What browser are you using? if you have multiple is this occuring on all?
Next Delete Browsing History in Internet Explorer:
- Open Internet Explorer
- Click Tools, click Internet Options
- Select the General tab
- Under Browsing History, click Delete…
- In the new window, Click the following:
- Delete files…, Click Yes.
- Delete cookies…, Click Yes.
- Delete history…, Click Yes.
- Click Close.
- Restart your Internet Explorer
