Stupid computer cant recognize devices

Question:Ok, so, I plus my headphones into my computer. and YES, into the proper hole. I am not an idiot when it comes to comptuers. So please no one talk to me as if I am slow at it. So, I plus them in, and the sound still comes out the speakers. so. I messed around in the playback devices section, and somehow finally managed to switch it so that I could wear my headphones. But now that I have taken them out, it doesnt automatically flip to speakers. it's supposed to automatically flip between the two when I plug and unplug but it doesnt. I cant seem to get it to switch back. And now everytime I play youtube vids ore whatever they wont play. it will play a couple seconds worth, with no sound, then stop. and that is all that it will do. so what the heck is going on here? it's becoming mor ridiculous then it should be.

Hi orisha9999,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Answers Forums.

Are you plugging your headphones in to the actual plug on the back of your tower or in to a plug on the speakers?

Have there been any changes done to your system recently either hardware or software changes that may possibly be effecting your sound?

Will you please run a clean boot on your system to see if that helps to clear up the issue you are currently having?

Please follow the link listed below for the steps to run a clean boot.

Answer 2:   Well, I am not sure if  clean boot is necessary. I have a laptop, an Acer 5620Z. When my friend's bought it for me, it had Vista on it, not sure which one, but they out XP on it because they knew I really liked the XP. Almost a month ago now it went through 15 Trojans. A friend of mine retrieved my data, removed the operating system, then went to put XP back on, but my comp didnt want to read the disc, so he put Vista Business on it. No problem, but when I plug my headphones in the front of my laptop, as there is only one place to plus headphones, and it's the same input jack that I have been using the past 10 months that I have had the computer, it just doesnt want to automatically flip to speakers. So I somehow managed to get it flipped, because I was late at night and trying to watch some movies, I didnt want to wake my roomates with War Movie and what not, lol. So, then when I unplugged my headphones, it wont automatically flip back to speakers. Now, all other sounds, like microsoft sounds Will play through the speakers still, but nothing else will, when it comes to YouTube and things like that, it just won't work. Also, the videos will now play for a few seconds with no sound, then stop. It's really strange, same thing for videos on Facebook and everywhere. Plus, clean boot? What is that, if I were to do it, I do not want it removing anything that I own. So if will do that, I won't bother with that.  Anyhow, let me know. And if you kno anything about the mouse pad, and why it auto clicks, that would be nice too. because I will be typing emails or on messenger, and it will auto click and sometimes, more often then not, end up in the middle of a sentence, and I start typing in the middle of that sentence. And it gets aggrevating because I must delete that section I wrote, and go down to where i had left off and start writing again what I was writing, there has GOT to be a way to turn it off. My computer never did it until I have gotten this Vista put on it. Now, I know my friend to be very professional despite computers just being a hobby of his, and I know that he didn't mess around with anything that it's made my computer screwy. But any suggestions would be nice.
