Windows Updates Leads To "No Audio Output Device Installed"

Question:Hi all,
Last night Windows Updates automatically updated my laptop - I have Vista Home Premium.  So the updates downloaded, but this morning, when I restarted my laptop and the updates installed, I had no sound! When I put my mouse over the little sound icon on my desktop, it says I have "No Audio Output Device Installed".
I don't know what happened or how to fix it - can anyone help.  And I can't just use System Restore, because it was disabled, so there aren't any restore points to go back to.

Thanks in advance!

Hello YoshiAnn,

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers form.  One suggestion is to go to the manufacture's site and down the drivers for your device.  Most manufactures will allow you to download the drivers in the support area of their site.  You will need your model number and the Version of Windows you are running.

Answer 2:Hi Joseph,
Thank you for the information! I tried this, but it didn't help - it's okay though!  I posted the question in another forum and I got a solution: they sent me this link - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistahardware/thread/747a3408-95a5-4fb4-aff5-0adbef421ef3/.

Anyways, thanks again :)

This does not work because the driver update will not install. I get an error message that says device not found.
