Unable to open windows media player

Question:Hi guys! Im using Windows Vista Home Premium, I created a new user account.. and after that I deleted my previous account. When I tried to open WMP, it's not responding and I coudn't able to open the program. Then I tried to use the Guest account and I able to open it. But I don't like to switch user account again and again from my account to Guest account just to access WMP. Has anyone had an idea how to fix this problem? Hoping for your answers.... Thanks

Hi bl4ck5ilv3r,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Answers Community Forums.

You can try to clear the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:

Exit Windows Media Player.

For Windows XP:

Click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

For Windows Vista:

Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.

Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.

Restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If this does not resolve the problem, clear the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

Exit Windows Media Player.

If you are running Windows XP, click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft, and then click OK.

If you are running Windows Vista, click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.

Select the Media Player folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.

Restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Hi bl4ck5ilv3r,

Thank you for replying.

I would suggest you to try creating a new administrator user account and check how media player works.

If you have media player working in the new admin account follow this link on how to transfer data from a corrupted user account to a new one.

Note: Keep this in mind; do not copy Ntuser.dat, Ntuser.dat.log and Ntuser.ini.

Hope this helps.
