Question:i just upgraded my computer to a amd phenom x4 940 prossesor and a gigabyte ga-ma78gpm-ud2h motherboard. ever sense then i have been unable to start media player 11 on vista. i keep getting the same message (a problem caused the program to stop working correctly). can anyone give me an idea what can be causing this?
Answer 1:nighthawkxxx, thank you for posting to the Microsoft forums.
Let me ask a couple questions before we get started.
Did this occur prior to the hardware upgrade?
Has media player ever worked correctly?
Is this a clean install of Windows Vista.
Please let us know the following as it will allow us to further proceed with trouble shooting.

Answer 2:
Hi Nighthawkxxx,
There is a possibility that the component files of Windows Media Player might have been corrupted somehow and thus causing the issue. I will recommend you to try the steps given below.
Perform SFC Scan to fix any damaged Windows System files.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
2. Right-click cmd in the Programs list, and then click Run as administrator. Collapse this imageExpand this image
3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
4. At the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:
sfc /scannow
Note: The System File Checker tool may ask you to insert the Windows Vista disc during the scan if required.
When the scan is complete, test to see whether the issue you are experiencing is resolved.
Hope it helps, please post back and let us know.
