Windows update will not finish

Question:Hi Ladies and Gentlemen,
I complete a windows update three days ago and when shutting down left the computer to shut dowm after updates.  I turned the computer on yesterday and it came up saying configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0 percent complete, so I thought fair enough and left it to complete the update.  It has now been 24 hours and it is still shutting down and comining up saying configuring updates on it's own this cycle then starts again.  Due to this I have tried shutting it down and starting in safe mode but it still comes up the same.  Please advise me what to do as it is a OEM licence and I have no reboot disk!  I have windows home ultimate on a Acer 5520G with 4Gb DDR RAM, if you need any more information please ask

Answer 1:Come on people some please give me some advise!

Answer 2:

Hi David:

It seems you had an ISP crash, or the update crashed while downloading.

I am inserting some KBA's to help you through this next step of recommending the "Restore to last Known Good".

Though the directions might say "XP" the instructions are the same.

Let us know how this goes, thank you for your post.

Answer 3:

Hi Don,

I'm affraid that won't work as I can't log on to windows, here is the sequence of what happens:

1, Switch the machine on.

2, Srceen goes from black to windows blue.

3, Screen display says "Configuring updates: 3 of 3 - 0% complete.
Do not turn off your computer."

4, Screen display says "Shuting down."

5, Screen goes blank.

6, ACER screen appears.

7, Blue screen appears saying Microsoft Corporation.

8, Computer goes back to number 2 and starts all over again!

I have tried to start the machine in all safe modes and it still does the same.  I have left the laptop on overnight several times hoping for update to complete but it doesn't.

Any more suggestions.
