Question:
I have a Acer Laptop. The other day it said windows needed some updates. I downloaded them. When the computer was configuring them, it is stuck on the 3rd update. It always says 0% processed even after 4 hours! I tried to restart the computer on Safe mode. It started on safe mode only to appear still with the 3rd configuration. Then after about 60 seconds it shut down, restarted back to normal yet still at the 3rd update. I tried to do a system recovery but it said that either there was not an error or that it was an error and it was going to shut down. I can NOT get the computer past the stupid 3rd configuration to be able to get into my computer to do anything else. i also tried to recover my system to a previous time but it would not let me do that either! HELP!!!! Also I don't have a back up disk (STUPID I know) once I get this fixed that is the first thing I am going to do. please HELP HELP HELP
Answer 1:Try Safe Mode one more time.
If that fails, make your own repair Disk:
Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.
Try a System Restore once there, to pick a Restore Point before your problem..
Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a different time > Next > etc
Cheers.

If the above does not work, try making a Bootable Repair Disk to do a Startup Repair:
As is the case with most computer/laptops these days, they do not come with the proper Vista Disk to do Repairs with; only Recovery Disks.
As yours falls into the above category, download the ISO file at the supplied link, and make a Bootable Disk from it.
Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive.
At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, to go into Bios/Setup, or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert that Bootable Disk you have made in the Drive, and reboot.
You can do a Startup Repair, System Restore, etc with it.
Read all info at the website about creating and using it.

ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It makes a very good Repair Vista disk.
You can do a Startup Repair, System Restore, etc from it.
It is not a reinstall disk.
And the 32bit is what comes normally on a computer, unless 64bits requested.

Acer eRecovery Facts
1. At the Acer splash screen, you can press Alt and F10 (at the same time you would press F2 to enter the BIOS) to bring up a DOS style version of eRecovery.
· The unit is able to reload Windows from this mode faster then from CD.
· The password by default is 000000 (6 zeros) and it is displayed when you are asked for the password.
· Users are able to change the password in this mode for eRecovery only.
· The system can recover from the hidden image on the hard drive (PQService partition) or from CD/DVD media.
· It is possible to reload from the factory style CDs/DVD or the snapshots that the Windows version of eRecovery creates.
2. In Windows there is 3 ways to access the eRecovery feature.
· Press Alt and F10
· Open Acer eManager and then double click eRecovery.
· When a system is new it should automatically open this application and prompt you to make the recovery media.
Cheers.
