Need to reinstall Windows Smart Card Service...

Question:Using Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit.  The smart card service is missing.  I need to know how to reinstall the smart card service.

Answer 1:

Hi Rita Dances,

Since the Smart card service is missing we have to re register the dll files.

Click Start and type the command in the Start Search bar.

1) regsvr32 scarddlg.dll

2) regsvr32 scardssp.dll

3) regsvr32 sccbase.dll

4) regsvr32 sccsccp.dll

5) regsvr32 scredir.dll

6) regsvr32 slbcsp.dll

7) regsvr32 slbiop.dll

8) regsvr32 slbrccsp.dll

scarddlg.dll   SCardDlg - Smart Card Common Dialog

scardssp.dll  Smart Card Base Service Providers

sccbase.dll   Infineon SICRYPT Base Smart Card CSP

sccsccp.dll   Infineon SICRYPT Smart Card Crypto Provider COM Objects

scredir.dll     Smart Card Redirection for TS

slbcsp.dll     Schlumberger Smart Card CryptoAPI Library

slbiop.dll      Schlumberger Smart Card Interoperability Library v2

slbrccsp.dll   Schlumberger Smart Card CryptoAPI Resource File

If the above steps do not work well on your issue, please continue with the following instructions.

Run the system file checker.

1) Close all the open windows.

2) Click the Start Pearl, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".

3) Right-click "Command Prompt" and click "Run as administrator".

4) In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in "chkdsk /r" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

5) Type Y and click Enter again.

6) Restart the computer.

Hope this information is helpful.

Let me know if this worked.

All the best!

Thanks and Regards:

Answer 2:Thank you.  I will give it a try right away.  I appreciate the information.

Answer 3:Hi Diana,

As I tried to go through the dll commands I kept getting errors.  The first one gave me an error stating- The module "scarddlg.dll" was loaded but the entry point dll Register Server was not found.  Make sure that "scarddlg.dll" is a valid dll or ocx file & then try again.  The other commands failed too.

Then I did as instructed and ran the system file checker & restarted.  Smartcard is still not located under services.

Any other suggestions?

Rita
