OK, Lets try this again, I'm trying to fix a download/video replay problem that no one seems to want to talk about.

Question:Im using Vista, service pack 1, and is on an Acer laptop.
For some reason, I cannot download videos or add ons for games or other programs.  Everything starts up fine, but after a few minutes, the system hangs , freezes, or just stops.  No error message, no nothing. It just stops working.  Ive tried resetting ipconfig,  ive tried running without add-ons, deactivating defender and McAfee anti virus program, running around my router and loading directly off the modem, I tried going back to default setting on IE7,  I even tried downloading with dial up figuring the slower speed might help,.  Nothing.   Same problem every time.

Same thing happens with imbedded videos, streaming, WMV, mpeg, starts up fine, runsd s couple minutes and stops.

Weirdest thing is program manager says its still running, but I know its not, because the time left, and data bit transfer register also freeze, and I let it run for a couple hours once just to make sure.

Ive read a lot of similar questions wity Vista download problems, but none quite like this one .

Answer 1:1st make a new user - simple name   test  password  password   all lower case

give it ADMIN rights - REBOOT - logon to it  -

can you download FILES now? (not video!)

Download this - as test - might be of use later.

Ok now try video : youtube or where? try a couple

Any help?

Vista LOVES updated drivers.... I would check video (display adapter), sound, NIC, Wi-Fi and other specific
device drivers..... also BIOS

Check System Maker's site 1st...... install new ones from there -

Then check each Device Maker's site for even newer ones. i.e. say your machine has an ATI video card,
then look for updated driver at Dell (Dell is example of system maker) and install the latest there. Then
go to ATI and look for even newer ones. The System Maker's are a fall back.

Do not bother running Update Drivers in Device Manager as that will only find very old ones as MS is far
behind certifying drivers. Added that most system makers stop carrying updated drivers once the model
is no longer being sold.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers

Answer 2:No.

I tried down loading a few updated drivers, and couldn't even do that!

So Im thinking it must be something very basic that just isnt working as intended.

Answer 3:So you are saying when you made a new user and logoned on you could not download files?
