Question:This is the message that appears when I mouse over the red X that is next to my speaker icon. I have tried to update the driver {No sucsess it can not find the device to update it to} I have restored my computer back to factory condition {Once again with no sucsess} HP has no clue what the problem is and Microsoft seems to be blaming Conexant. Either way I now own a rather expensive paperweight as no one seems to have any usefull ideas at all. If any MS employees ever read this let me say "THANKS FOR NOTHING" Next time I'm buying a MAC.
Answer 1:That error message may appear if the speaker wire connection to your computer's audio port is loose or damaged.
Excessive flexing of the speaker audio cable can short the connection. Try a different audio cable or different speakers.
In other words, you have a hardware issue unrelated to the Windows operating system.

Answer 2:No that is not correct. once again I state that there is no sound at all coming from my computer. The message states that there is no audio input device installed. This appeared after an update and will not go away no matter what steps I take. It would be immposible for me to have damaged the speaker audio cable as there is not one to damage. Next time ask for more info before pronuncing judgement eh. The issue is that the computer is not recognizing my sound card. All the research I have done and Microsofts own website says it is related to drivers not being compatible with one of their updates. I am not an IT expert and when windows update says I need to install something I usually do it in good faith the the company who designed my oiperating system will not do anything that would harm my computer. Turns out I was wrong.
It was said after the financial meltdown that some companys were "To big to fail" well here is a new term for you Microsoft has become "To big to care"
Answer 3:Open Device Manager located in the Control Panel, then delete your audio device and reboot.
