Question：i cant install vista sp2...i hv tried thru windows update and downloading the update from the microsoft download website. the error code in windows update is 800f0816. the update downloads perfectly and installs till stage 2 after which it reinstalls. i get the bios and the loading windows then the screen goes completely black. there is no mouse nothing...in the end i have to reboot using the power button...when it starts i use startup repair to restore the computer back to pre-sp2. i tried repair program in startup repair...it said that the problem was with the boot log...though it says it has solved the prob...the black screen occurs when ever i try to boot...i hv tried asking microsoft for help by email though they have not been able to help me...i hv tried reloading the windows update components too...pls help me

Please do this.
1) Boot in Safe Mode, open SERVICES Window , stop Backgroung Intelligence transfer Service, Cryptographic Services, and windows update services.
2) Rename "Software distribution" folder located in C:/ Windows/Software distribution to 'Software distribution.old" and catroot2 in C:/Windows/System32/catroot2 to "catroot2.old".
3)Perform a clean boot in MSCONFIG by unchecking "load startup items" and disabling all 3rd- party services.
4)Check for "pending.xml" in C:/Windows/Winsxs folder and delete it.(Sometimes you may not be able to find it).
5) Remove any Security programs (Antivirus or Anti Malware or firewalls) and restart the computer and check for updates , once you see the SP2 update start installing it again. That should work without any issues.
