Question:I just bought a Fujitsu/Siemens laptop (AMILO Li 3910) which came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. However it is in French and this Vista version I have will not change the operating system language to English despite every effort. I was told by a Fujitsu tech that perhaps Fujitsu had only the French version license of Vista Home Premium and no change was possible unless I got an English module from Microsoft. I thought I had bought my computer with the full Home Premium OS and that I could easily switch operating system languages. What are my options? Fujitsu's salesman had assured me the language switch was no problem but their techpeople say it is out of their province and I need the Microsoft English version. However I paid for what I thought was the fully featured Vista Home Premium that switches languages easily. What are my options?
Also can I get a free update to Windows 7 (English) when it is released since I just got my laptop?
Answer 1:
Language Pack download change: does not apply to Vista Home Versions
To change your French Language Vista Home Premium to English, you will have to buy an French Vista Upgrade Ultimate Disk/Licence.Then download the English Language Pack through Windows Optional Update.
The Upgrade to Vista Ultimate has to be done in the original Language Vista came in.
2. Your other Option is to buy a FULL version of English Vista Home Premium, and do a clean install.

Answer 2:Thanks so much for the info... very helpful. I can apparently get the Windows 7 home premium upgrade when it is released. If I just wait till October, can I then get the Windows 7 release (in French) and then change to the English version?
This is very frustrating. Why doesn't Siemens just load in the full version with the full language choices? After all, in the EC by law everything official must be released in English, French and German besides whatever the native language is.
All the best,
