Microsoft Works 8 update failed (error 646)

Question:Hello,
The Security Update for Microsoft Works 8 (KB967043) will not install on my computer. When the update is launched it first says it is creating a restore point, then after a few seconds it says installing updates. After a minute or so the message "Code 646 Windows Update encountered an unknown error" appears. This has ben going on since mid June. During a previous search for help I was directed to a website (RegCure) that said the problem was almost certainly caused by registry errors and their software would solve the problem. I tried it, it did nothing for me. Any ideas out there? I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer 2:Syed,

I had the same problem.  Your solution above worked fine for me - thank you.  But why did the normal Windows Update fail for this item?

Thanks,

Answer 3:

Hi Don27,

Thank you for replying. Good to know that the update is installed successfully. Cheers!

Sometimes the update do not install due to the interruption of non Microsoft services running on the computer or if the update already tried to install, but for some reason the update failed to install on the computer.
Installing the same update will result in the failure of the update. Hence we have to remove the older contents or the information of the update as we did in my first post. The purpose of renaming the update folders is to avoid the older contents or the information of the previous downloaded updates and allow the updates to download and install successfully, as if the the updates are downloaded first time.

Thanks and Regards:
