Question:I have a dell studio 15 that I purchased this summer, and it is running vista 64bit. Before I downloaded the most recent update for vista64, when I closed my laptop lid it would go into "sleep" mode. Now, after downloading the update, when I shut the lid to my laptop, the computer restarts itself and when vista is launched it tells me that the "bluescreen" error has occurred.
I do not have any virsues, trojans, registry problems, or spyware on my computer.
What can I do to fix this problem, because it was non-existant before I downloaded the update issued by Microsoft.
Thank you for your help
Answer 1:Just to further clarify which updates I downloaded that caused this problem, they were:
1. Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB973879)
2. Update for Internet Explorer 8 Compatibility View List for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB973874)
3. Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB970653)
4. Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB972036)
Also, to further clarify. I downloaded these updates, the problem occurred, so I tried to "system restore" to the day before I downloaded the update and the problem was fixed. Then, upon restarting my computer, windows automatically downloaded, installed, and restarted my computer. And the problem returned. So I have narrowed it down to these updates, because I have run virus scans, registry problem scans, and spyware scans--all telling my computer is ok.
Answer 2:Hi, I have the same problem with my Dell XPS Studio 16. It's running Vista 64bit. It's seems that the problem occured with the update KB973879. Uninstall this windows update from the add/remove program in the Control Panel.

Answer 3:Just to let people know, regarding the bad update (KB973879), it no longer shows in Windows Update.
Meaning, I just ran Windows Update, and it is NOT available anymore. I only get the other 3 good ones plus 1 for Defender.
It looks like Microsoft knows of the problem and removed it from updates.
