Windows update not working on Vista Home Premium Code 80070005

Question:

Windows update not working on Vista Home Premium after updating windows and no-windows programs.  windows update retuns with: Windows could not search for new updates. Error found: Code 80070005.
Ran Fix It program in both modes. then ran SFC in cmd prompt.  Update still broken.

Then ran SFC in comd prompt.  Returned with:

Verification 100% complete.Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I looked at this file, but it is to big to paste the relevant part here, how can I forward it to you?

What do I do next?  Thanks for any help.

Answer 1:

Hello, cheyennedax

Thank you for using the Answers Forum!

What files did it say it couldn't repair?

You can try doing a System Restore to when it was working. To do a system restore to when it worked previously, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, open System Restore and select a date before the problem started.

Let us know.

Answer 2:This was some time ago...system restore was not working either.  ended up using the Vendor recovery disk to make everything work!
