Question:I had to install Windows 2000 after losing XP disk and eventually the OS due to a virus. I now do not have any external speaker options or sounds. I can hear the internal speaker "beep" but that is the ONLY sound coming from this dinosaur computer of mine. I have installed TEAC Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.02e and it runs as if everything is fine but still no sound. I get messages depending on what I try to do that tell me there is no sound card. I haven't removed anything, most likely have an onboard anyway but still no sound. How do I get this system to locate and recognize there is a sound card somewhere? The computer is a Dell Optiplex GX260. Thanks, K
Answer 1:Hello HDBabyVegas, welcome.
The problem you are experiencing is related to there not being a sound card driver installed.
Here is a direct link to Dell's website that will allow you to download the driver for you sound card.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WNT5&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PLX_PNT_P4_GX260&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en&TabIndex=
Once the page loads, expand the 'Audio' section and choose to download the 'Analog Devices - Driver'.
After installing it, restart your computer and let us know if it fixes your issue,
Thanks!
