no upgrade to select

Question:hi i have tried to upgrade tofrom vista home premium to vista ultimate but i dont get the option of selecting the upgrade because it faded out and am left with the clean installation option what do i do. thanks

Answer 1:

Service Pack level on your Installed Operating System can not be higher than what is on the Upgrade disk.

Click Start > right-click Computer > Properties > System > it will tell you which SP you have install.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948537

"How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs"

If Installed OS has Service Pack 2 and Upgrade Service Pack 1 > Uninstall SP2 from installed Operating System > install Upgrade > reinstall SP2.

And run the Upgrade from within a running Home Premium.

And 32bit to 64bit, and 64bit to 32bit is a clean install, not an upgrade, in case you have different bit versions.

Cheers.

Answer 2:Hi, i have the same problem. but for me, i'm just trying to reformat my computer. Meaning from vista Home premium to vista home premium...
And i can't find my service pack.
on the system window, in the system section, it only state : Manufacturer, Model, Rating, Processor, Memory(RAM), System type.
