Question:
Hello alltogether,
My Vista system used to have all latest updates until I did a system restore. After the system restore, SP2 was not installed anymore (or not installed yet, whatever).
The error I am getting is 0x80070002, ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND.
Tried so far:
-Downloaded the standalone SP2 installer with the same result
-sfc /scannow which told me that everything's allright
-System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB 947821) which told me that everything's allright
-The troubleshooting steps mentioned in Windows help (clearing C:\windows\softwareDistribution\Download)
The problem of course persists. I tried to look through CBS.log and found nothing I could start with, it's avaible at http://kirillst.ki.funpic.de/dlext/CBS.zip
The system is Vista x86, I installed all updates I could except SP2.
I hope that anyone is able to help, I am not really able to reinstall the whole system because it's not really my system and the owner actually wants to use the PC instead if watching me maintaining it.
Answer 1:Hi NeoBoot ,
Thank you for choosing Windows vista Community.
This issue can occur if one of the following conditions is true:
A program on your computer interfered with the installation of the service pack.
There is an inconsistency in the Windows Servicing Store. The Windows Servicing Store is a component that is required to successfully install the service packs.
I would suggest you to perform the steps (excluding the ones you have already tried) from the link below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366
Make sure you remove all the external devices(except mouse and the keyboard) before you install SP2.
Let me know how it helps.
Regards,
Amritha.
Answer 2:Hello,
Thank you for the answer.
Sadly, it did not help. I tried all four solutions and the result is still the same, the installation does not work.
Are there any further log files I could upload to help troubleshooting? I already tried to look through the installer activity with Process Monitor without finding anything, yet my knowledge of Windows internals is quite limited.
