[Answer]stop: 0x0000c1f5

Question:

I have gotten this stop: 0x0000c1f5 blue screen error on repeated attempts to load windows. After doing a little research I have come across that this is a issue with vista with a hotfix from microsoft. I am trying to figure out how to get the hotfix onto my computer since it will not start. I have also run across several sites  that mention gettign hold of a microsoft 7 beta version to remove the corrupted file. Please if you have any recomendations I'd really love to hear them.
Thank you.

Answer 1:

Hello rkippa,

Thank you for posting.  You are correct.  You can fix this problem by booting with a Windows 7 RC setup disk.  The steps are covered in this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970101

You will need to follow this link to download the Windows 7 RC ISO file:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dd353205.aspx

This is a free download from Microsoft.

Once you have downloaded the Windows 7 RC ISO file you will need to use a disk burning software application that supports burning ISO images.  There are several suggested in on the download site.  Once you have burned the ISO to DVD it will create a Windows 7 RC installation disk.  Simply follow the instructions in the KB article to repair Vista.  Let us know if this resolves your problem.

Thanks,

Jack

Answer 2:Jack!

You have apparently solved (or at least gotten my Vista back up for now) with the Windows 7 RC installation disk! I haven't gotten completely confident but I am back to something I can work with following the instructions you provided. Thanks for providing some info for a helpless computer iliterate to follow!!!
