Volume control and battery life button missing from notification bar

Question:About a week ago my volume icon and battery life icon was no longer on my notification bar. I have searched everywhere to try to restore this. I cannot adjust my computers volume, or see my battery life. They buttons are just gone. I have no sound coming out of my computer when I try to listen to music or anything. Where have these notification buttons went, and how do I get them back?

HP Pavillion dv6000
Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 1

Thank You

Answer 1:

Hello JHOUCHILEI,

Thank you for using Microsoft Answers.  Right click on the toolbar and select properties, click on the Notification tab.  There select  Volume and Power.  That will place the volume and battery icon on your toolbar.

Answer 2:I have a similar problem except for the buttons in the Notification tab are greyed out and I can't see why they should be... One second my computer was perfectly happy to display these things, and the next it has decided that it should never have allowed me to see the icons for them... ever, and won't let me in case it burns my eyes out or something....

Answer 3:i have same problem as tolietman.  properties right clicked shows greyed out sound and power icon.  could this be a virus or something?  tried numerous routes to correct but am puzzled how to retrieve.
