Question:I have windows 7 as my main OS and I am trying to install windows vista on it own partition for a dual boot configuration but when trying to install vista from my pen drive at the very beggining when starting to copying files it stops with this error: [0x0604ad] IBS Callback_CopySetupFiles:An error occurred while copying Setup files. Error code is [0x80070070][gle=0x00000070]
This stop error only shows up when installing vista from a pen drive! Using the Vista DVD it installs fine!
SO i wonder what is going on here? Seems installing vista from a pen drive to dual boot with windows 7 is not possible!
Only from DVD I can install vista for a dual boot configuration all is fine!
Can someone tell me what is the culprit here any experiences like this?
Answer 1:
Hello Windows7user,
Thank you for Posting on the Microsoft Vista Community Forums.
It seems either the Setup files are not copied properly to the flash drive or the flash drive is not formatted to install vista.
You may try the steps below and later copy the setup files to the flash drive and try to install Vista from it.
Step 1: Format the Flash Drive
1. Open command prompt and run as a administrator.
2. Type the following commands:
a. diskpart
b. select disk 1
c. clean
d. create partition primary
e. select partition 1
f. active
g. format fs=fat32
h. assign
i. exit
Note: This set of commands assumes that the USB flash drive is addressed as "disk 1". Double check the disks (type "list disk") before cleaning it. If you have multiple hard drives, like an SDFlash drive or a Multibay drive, you could end up wiping your second drive using this command.
Step 2: Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive
Type the following command to start copying all the content from the Windows Vista DVD to your newly formatted high speed flash drive.
xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\
(Assuming d: as the source for Windows Vista DVD)
You may also you Windows explorer to copy and paste all the Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive.
Once you complete the above steps, try to boot from the USB and try to install Vista.
Hope it helps.
Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

Answer 2:still no luck!
I am formatting the pen drive on windows 7
The pen drive boots fine but just after i select the clean partition to where in stall vista and clicking ok the install stops again!
setuperr.log shows this
2009-08-23 09:33:08, Error [0x0604ad] IBS Callback_CopySetupFiles:An error occurred while copying Setup files. Error code is [0x80070070][gle=0x00000070]
I can only go trough half the installation process then as setup tries to copy the setup files just nothing happens!
I again tried the pen drive on an empty harddisk and vista install perfectly fine!
this is driving me crazy!
Answer 3:I think the real problem is the order how I installed the OS
I installed windows 7 first then trying to install vista
maybe this is not the good order cause i know to always install oldest OS first!
but 7 and vista are similar so I don`t know !
