Update for MIcrosoft Search enhancement Pack failed - error code 80070652

Question：

The update for Microsoft Search Enhancement Pack kept failing with error code 80070652.

I have Window Vista and the Update for 'windown life essentials' was successful.

Any help will be appreciated as how to solve this problem.

Answer 1：Hi Achoiwong,

 The issue that you are facing might be due to the third party software's or services that are running in the background. I would suggest you to perform clean boot and then try to update your computer. Follow the steps mentioned below to put your computer in clean boot state:

       1.Click Start , type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
          If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the
            password, or click Continue     .

       2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.

       3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.

       4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and
         then click Disable All.    

       5. Click OK.

       6. When you are prompted, click Restart.

       7. After the computer starts, start the game or program and check whether the problem is
         resolved.

   If the above doesn't resolve your issue, refer these steps.

      1. Open task manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL on your keyboard simultaneously

      2. Click processes tab and select show processes from all users

      3. Click image name column to sort alphabetically

      4. Look for process by name msiexec.exe, click on it and then click on end process

      5. Now try to update your computer

Thank you for your advice. It works.  And the 'clean boot' process also help solving similar 'update' problems that I recently encountered as well. Thanks again.

I automatically got the new Vista Search tool from the MSN icon on the lower left.  I do not like this new search - how can I get the previous version back?
