Question:
I have Windows Vista, with Media Player 11.0.6002.18005. When I attempt to rip a cd, Media Player rips for 40% then Error appears on every track. There is no specific error code. I have pursued all avenues that I can think of without success.

Is the CD you are ripping a commercial CD with .cda files?
Do you have two optical drives? Try the other one.

Answer 2:this sounds somewhat similar to the issue I am currently trying to figure out.(started a topic for it below)
I have two optical drives and they both will not rip or play commercial CDs, and/or CDrs beyond the first track anymore after I upgraded/reinstalled the Vista 64bit OS

Just a guess...but maybe the following article would be useful:
(314060) Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing
or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us
And it may be worth a try to search the support site
of your CD / DVD drive's manufacturer for a firmware
update.
