SQL Server Reporting Services on Vista HP

Question:The last time I checked, SQL Server Reporting Services could not be installed on Vista Home Premium due to issues with IIS.  Has this ever been fixed or must I upgrade to Vista Ultimate?  I am using SQL Server Developer 2005.  If the answer has been covered in these forums, I have been unable to find it, but I have found a lot of other folks with the same problem.

Answer 1:Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Vista Answers Forum!

Yes, you are right.

Prerequisites:

You have a computer that is running one of the following editions of Windows Vista:

  • Windows Vista Business
  • Windows Vista Enterprise
  • Windows Vista Ultimate

For more information on how to install SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services on a Windows Vista-based computer, refer the below link:

This article discusses requirements and steps for installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services on a Windows Vista-based computer.

Answer 2:That is understood.  What I do not understand is why your "Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005" (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(SQL.90).aspx) says something different.  If specifically shows SQL Server 2005 Developer to be compatible with Vista HP.  What developer would want to install a system with no reporting capability?  And how can I be sure that upgrading to Vista Ultimate will solve the problem after the fact?  You really need to get your information updated!
